Movie Review: Quicksilver
Reading time: 2 – 2 minutes
I first heard about Quicksilver while reading Joe Kurmaskie’s Metal Cowboy and I knew I had to watch it. An 80s movie about a whiz stock broker who becomes a bike messenger in NYC after he loses it all in one bad day of trading can’t miss right? Wrong. The film was horrible. It was cut poorly which caused a lack of continuity. The plot was also pretty thin and I found myself wondering quite often where certain scenes were going.
That said, the bike trick scenes were pretty sweet and the soundtrack was great (although not as good as the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack – you have to admit that Harold Faltermeyer was one of the best 80s film scorers). There is also an epic climax scene in which Jack Casey (Kevin Bacon) is being chased through NYC by a car while on his bike. What other movie can you think of with a high speed bike chase?
If you like bikes like I do than give this movie a shot. If you don’t like bikes, I would suggest passing on this film. While it was bad in a funny way to me it will probably be just plain bad to you. But hey, you’ll get to see Kevin Bacon, Louie Anderson and Laurence Fishburne in some interesting roles so it may not be a total loss!
